Spare a thought for my intern, Ivan. After interviewing for PPE at Oxford on Monday and Tuesday, he returned to “work” on Wednesday for a meeting with Anthony Bolton then off to the Sohn Conference where we had lunch with some BTBS clients and listened to some great stock pitches (much more on those for premium subscribers below).
On Thursday we first held a Zoom event for Forensic Analysis Bootcamp students, past and present. First we heard from Pulak Prasad, author of the brilliant What I learned About Investing from Darwin. Then financial historian and author Russell Napier presented 21 Lessons from Financial History for the Way We Live Now. Both sessions were fantastic and students were thrilled.
The next cohort of the Forensic Analysis Bootcamp starts in February and you can sign up to be notified here.
Before we get into the Sohn pitches, a gentle reminder – our annual end of year sale gets you £100 off our How to Pick Winning Stocks and How to Read a Balance Sheet courses. Use the code BF23 at the checkout before the coupon expires next week.
Ivan finishes this month. I have really enjoyed working with him and he feels he has learned a lot. If you know someone who wants an internship to learn about investing, please get in touch.
Duchenne
Those of you who listen to my podcast (and why don’t all of you? you should see what you are missing) will know that our new supported charity is Duchenne UK. It’s an awful disease which affects children. They have held an annual cycle ride from London to Paris in 24 hours which has raised £7.3m since it was set up in 2011.
It’s apparently an amazing experience where people make new friends and wonderful memories, but most importantly a real difference in helping to end Duchenne. Next one is 17-18 May 2024 and you can register for a place here. I don’t look great in lycra and no way am I attempting that. Especially in 24 hours – I thought that was a misprint!
Premium subscribers can read on for their coupon code and our takeaways from the Sohn conference including the full list of speakers’ stocks and our choice picks.
